ROV transporter

Thanks to Dr. Doug Levin for letting us borrow his Videoray ROV for our upcoming operation. In true style we met at an undisclosed location for the ROV transfer and the whole system was packed neatly in the back of his red Audi TT.

Look for lots more photos and stories from AUV Camp in the coming week.

AUV in Google Earth- Trackline animation

Here is a screen capture showing a snapshot of a timeline view
animation of a Gavia 3D model running along a mission path in Google
Earth. The location is Pavillion Lake and the data is from a 2007
mission that Alex provided. The size and complexity of the model
occasionally causes flickers in GE. The path is a series of 2D points
in space colored to a scalar attribute (could be temp or depth or
anything else). The model follows the path based on the positioning
information along with heading, pitch, and roll.

Still much more work to be done but a nice early step in the right
direction.

USS Constellation

Took this picture alongside the Constellation during a Mother's Day trip to Baltimore.
Next time I'll have to remember to bring the AUV to run some missions there in the inner harbor.

Sea Grant Advisory Council Visit

April 21st, the lab played host to the Sea Grant Advisory Council
along with Dean Targett for a visit to the lab to discuss AUV
technology.
Thanks to Val for coming down with the vehicle and helping to set up
and help with the event. We had a lot of interest and really great
questions from the attendees.
Highlights included the Dean using the go plug to start up the AUV.

DORA Gavia in GE video

DORA in Google (Earth) Oceans

I seem to have forgotten to post about this before but with the advice help of some friends (thanks Kurt) and the team at Hafmynd we have managed to bring a model of DORA into a Collada model format into Google Earth (now with Oceans!). This opens up a whole realm of mission playback, planning, and even real-time simulations.

Right now the model is just in a solid UD blue color but soon we hope to add more true to life coloring.

Stay tuned for more.
